This webcast will cover the basics of design and operations of biofilm processes for municipal wastewater treatment. First we will examine the definitions, structure, existence, and advantages and disadvantages compared to activated sludge systems.  We will then move to a discussion of the type of applications (aerobic and anaerobic treatment, only BOD removal, nitrification, and nutrient removal). Finally, we will give successful examples of wastewater treatment plants with biofilms based technologies. A brief description of design, modeling, and ongoing research will be included.
